This painting is a story (from left to right), representing a personal journey whose essence is likely shared by many. In case you missed it: it’s optimistic. The story - and the painting - continue to evolve. Panels 5-6 are already in the works, all continuous, both graphically and substantively. Sharing it as is, will update.
A person stands at the tip of Trolltunga, an iconic mountain peak in Norway. Typically, you would see it in pictures of “freedom” with arms spread and head up, or stunts like backflips. Legend has it that the mountain is inhabited by a troll, the favorite Norwegian “monster” character. The person is looking down, to the dark place where presumably the trolls - and hence fears - live.
She is missing the story!
The “scary mountain” is actually teeming with imagination and joy. There is a troll, but he’s cute. Like the ones from the 90s with the crazy hair. He is skipping rope over a stream of energy and spreading happy bubbles into the world, some of which infiltrate the panel on the left. Some of the bubbles emanate from the tail of a yellow submarine which starts on panel 3,
born out of John Lennon’s imagination. The submarine is part camel, whose body is ephemeral, made of pure energy and fire, which flow over panels 1 and 2 on the left. The camel has a (sibling?), who
looks back and is surprised to discover that she has wings!
This closes a loop for me to some extent.
3 years ago I painted “wings”, posted here as well, showing a woman clinging with her fingertips to the edge of a rock, not knowing she has wings and can fly.
Now, the wings are clearly present.
An ongoing journey.
More to come…
